Two of the finest instrumentalists in traditional music combine to bring a tour de force of breathtaking performances, which first started in lockdown with a video that was an international internet sensation. An outstanding talent in his generation, harmonica and melodeon player Will Pound has pushed the boundaries of both instruments, sharing awe inspiring performances across the world. Jenn Butterworth is one of the most notable folk guitarists in the UK, previously awarded ‘Musician of the Year’ at the Scots Trad Music Awards, and nominated for the same title at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. An excellent collaborator, she can regularly be seen performing with folk powerhouses such as Kinnaris Quintet, Ross Ainslie & Ali Hutton and Treacherous Orchestra. Together, they’ll share an eclectic mix of high energy tunes and uplifting songs.

One of the finest harmonica and melodeon players of his generation, Will Pound has pushed the boundaries working on and with a number of projects and musicians which in the past and present include Will Pound and Eddy Jay, Jenn Butterworth, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Liz Carrol, Martin Simpson, Guy Chambers, Concerto Caledonia, Robbie Williams and The Hillsborough Charity Single. He has travelled across most of Europe and as far as Australia for his music delighting and giving audiences awe inspiring performances. 

He has appeared on TV & Radio many times including appearances on BBC Breakfast, BBC2, Radio 2, BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, MTV, Radio 1xtra to  name a few. Will has been nominated 3 times for the BBC Radio 2 Folk Musician Of The Year Award in 2012, 2014 and 2015, has won FATEA Magazine Instrumentalist Of the Year 2013, 2014 and also was nominated for Songlines Magazine best newcomer. 

More about Jenn 

Jenn Butterworth is one of the most notable folk guitarists in the UK acoustic music scene. She currently holds the title ‘Musician of the Year’ from the Scots Trad Music Awards, and was nominated for the same title in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. An excellent collaborator, she has been a key member of a range of high profile folk music projects, including Ross Ainslie and Ali Hutton’s SYMBIOSIS Big Band, award winning folk powerhouse Kinnaris Quintet, three Celtic Connections New Voices, four years on the BBC Hogmanay Live show as a member of the All Star House Band and recently a member of folk supergroup ‘Songs of Separation’ involving an array of prominent folk artists including Eliza Carthy, Lady Maisery and Karine Polwart. The Songs of Separation album, conceived, arranged and recorded in just 7 days, won the title of ‘Best Album’ at the Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2017.

Jenn is also a highly recognised teacher with a wide range of teaching experience, and was recently awarded ‘Tutor of the Year’ at the 2015 Scots Trad Music Awards. She is Lecturer in Practical Studies in the Traditional Music Department of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, is a regular member of the teaching staff for Glasgow Fiddle Workshop and has recently taught for Fèisean nan Gàidheal, the National Youth Folk Ensemble (EFDSS), Halsway Manor & Burg Fürsteneck (Germany).

Will’s Workshop

Will Pound’s harmonica workshops are suitable for players of all levels including complete beginners. There is plenty of scope for learning the basics – right through to how to hone an innovative style on diatonic, chromatic or tremolo. 

You will learn new techniques on the harmonica and feel energised to keep harping on! Expect also to be inspired to want to create your own compositions too.

Do bring your harmonica to play! Will also encourages participants to film and record key parts of the workshop for future reference.

Jenn’s Guitar Workshop

Join award-winning musician and tutor Jenn Butterworth as she explores popular tune types and key signatures, and some tips and tricks for intermediate folk guitar accompaniment. 

Jenn’s guitar workshop is suitable for intermediate/advanced players. Jenn also plays the fiddle sometimes during workshops to help demonstrate the rhythms and accents.

Do bring your guitar to play! Jenn also encourages participants to film and record key parts of the workshop for future reference.
